It is NOT apparent in the game this is the case - it seems like just another step on your journey and BAM you are cut off from the rest of the world map. Once you start this you won't be able to go back and do anything else. When you get to "Missing Piece" in the main quest, you are at the Endgame. Please ensure you've done everything you want to do, including sidequests, before moving on with the "Missing Piece" quest. They are still sharp and crisp in the world though, where it really matters. My one complaint is that if you have a monitor with a native resolution of 1440x900 or less (like mine), the models in the static screens (like level up, inventory, stores, etc.) will be blurry. They are not AAA, but that is appealing to me. Also, it's great that your PCs are just some random adventurers and mostly here for the money (like real D&D characters) and not some sacred "Chosen One." It gives you the best parts of Icewind Dale NPCs (customization) with the best of Baldur's Gate (unique personalities). I loved the fact you get to make your whole party but that the personalities are sort of out of your control to an extent. It's easy to follow, makes sense, and has a few twists and turns that (for me) were unexpected and delightful. It's not on par with Planescape Torment for sure, but it's a perfectly serviceable fantasy storyline. The gameplay, especially the combat, is a ton of fun.Ī lot of people say the story is lacking. As a player and DM of the tabletop version of D&D, I learned a LOT about the rules I did not know prior to playing this game. It's very faithful to the 5e rules and employs them in an elegant way that's super fun. If you like D&D 5th Edition, you will love this game. I am sad that I beat it so quickly but there's still content to check out (see below) so I will be playing around with it for a bit longer. Check out more on Steam.I beat Solasta Crown of the Magister today. We’ll see what it ends up being, but this is one that might not be on your radar–but it should. At least that’s what Tactical Games have promised. The character creator promises to build a character’s personality, and that determines their voice acting lines and how they interact with the world and with the rest of the party. I’m excited to see how their story unfolds–we’ve only seen a glimpse of the campaign in the demo. Whether dealing with difficult terrain or fighting spiders that absolutely will climb on a wall and stay out of range of your melee fighters to advance towards the casters untrammeled. Solasta wants you to play it like you’re dungeon crawling in 5th. You’ll roll for initiative with each character, spells have the same area of effect, characters are all built on the same engine. They play with light and shadow and dim lighting and cover–all the rules that might fade to the background, or only come up in certain encounters, are present. This is hands down one of the best adaptations of 5th Edition. Bonus actions are here as well, in our playthrough of the demo, Rogues had Cunning Actions and Clerics could cast bonus action spells and Cantrips or move and attack. You’ll find things like opportunity attacks, and the ability to intersperse your movement with attacks or other actions. If you loved aspects like controlling a whole party of custom characters from games like Icewind Dale, or if you liked the dungeon crawling of the original Baldur’s Gates, this game is sure to hit notes that BG3, being developed by Larian and based off of their Divinity engine, won’t. This one is built off of the 5th Edition SRD, however, so you won’t come across Mind Flayers, but you will find a very faithful adaptation of the rules and mechanics of the game. We’ve talked about Solasta: Crown of the Magister here on BoLS before, but if you haven’t heard of it, it’s another 5th Edition cRPG coming out–Baldur’s Gate 3 isn’t the only D&D video game in the works right now. Solasta: Crown of the Magister’s developers are back with another diary, this time they’re showing off how well 5th Edition combat translates to their game.
